The Royan Genetics Center, also known as the Dr. Saeed Kazemi Ashtiani Medical Genetics Laboratory, was established in 2023 as a leading institution in the fields of genetics and molecular sciences, with the blessing of the Almighty. The center aims to enhance the quality and quantity of genetic testing in the diagnosis of genetic diseases and to provide the best services to clients and physicians. It operates in two main areas: diagnostic and research, leveraging the expertise of distinguished professors and advanced global technologies.
In order to improve the quality of life for patients, the Royan Genetics Center utilizes various cytogenetic and molecular techniques for the precise diagnosis of genetic diseases and provides comprehensive counseling services to its clients. The center’s areas of activity include genetics, biotechnology, gene-based novel therapeutic methods, and functional studies. Additionally, the center employs advanced laboratory techniques for diagnosing diseases caused by genetic changes and for identifying chromosomal abnormalities. The center’s diverse services include genetic testing before marriage, pre-pregnancy, and newborn testing.

Director of the Royan Genetics Center: Dr. Amir Amiri Yekta

Dr. Amir Amiri Yekta, born in 1979, holds a Ph.D. in Medical Genetics. Since 2007, he has been employed by the Royan Institute of the Jihad University and is currently serving as a faculty member and the director of the Royan Genetics Center, named in honor of the late Dr. Saeed Kazemi Ashtiani. Dr. Amiri Yekta completed his doctoral studies jointly at the Royan Institute and the University of Alpes in France, focusing on identifying genes related to human infertility. He also completed a research opportunity at the French Institute of Advanced Biological Sciences. In 2019 and 2020, Dr. Amiri Yekta was listed among the leading scientists of the country and has been recognized three times as a top researcher at the Royan Institute.
In addition to identifying and introducing disease-causing genes through next-generation sequencing, Dr. Amiri Yekta has studied the effects of these genes using various cellular and animal models. He has also participated in biotechnology projects, such as the production of genetically modified farm animals and the development of cell lines. His publications have appeared in renowned journals such as Nature Communications, The American Journal of Human Genetics, and EMBO Molecular Medicine. Dr. Amiri Yekta has also contributed to writing books on genetics and biotechnology and holds several patents for genes.
In addition to his work at the Royan Institute, Dr. Amiri Yekta also teaches at the Faculty of New Biological Sciences and New Medical Technologies.

Dr. Seyed Abolhasan Shahzadeh Fazeli, born in 1967, earned his Medical Doctor (MD) degree from Iran University of Medical Sciences in 1993. He then completed his Ph.D. in Molecular Medical Genetics at the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (NIGEB) in 2009. Dr. Shahzadeh Fazeli has published over 177 research articles in reputable national and international journals. He is a professor, faculty member, and a member of the Scientific Council at the Royan Institute, specifically in the Genetics and Stem Cell Groups.
