Royan Genetics Center Inaugurated Concurrently with the 44th Anniversary of ACECR
The Royan Genetics Center was inaugurated on Thursday in the presence of Dr. Hassan Moslemi Naeini, President of the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR), along with several prominent experts in the field, coinciding with the 44th anniversary of ACECR’s establishment.
This center, operating along two main axes—diagnostic and research—will focus on genetics, biotechnology, gene-based novel therapeutic methods, and functional studies. In the field of genetic diagnosis, it will work on identifying the causes of diseases resulting from changes in gene sequences as well as detecting chromosomal abnormalities using advanced molecular genetics and cytogenetics laboratory techniques.
At the ceremony, Dr. Seyed Abolhasan Shahzadeh Fazeli, Technical Director and specialist at the Royan Genetics Center, stated:
“After COVID-19, with the capacities and equipment we developed here, and the strong departments we have, we decided to establish a genetics center because genetic diagnosis is an integral part of infertility treatment.”
Dr. Shahzadeh Fazeli added:
“The expectations of the medical community and the public from genetics will soon go beyond diagnosis. Currently, gene therapy is a significant topic, and the cost of this type of treatment will be extremely high for countries that do not engage in it.”
He announced:
“The genetics diagnostic unit has been launched at this center, and we possess the most advanced technology at Royan. There are no shortcomings in our diagnostic capabilities. Research will also be conducted at this center, and our future goal is gene therapy. We hope to be among the pioneers of gene therapy in the region.”
Dr. Shahzadeh Fazeli emphasized:
“The service fees at Royan Institute are half of the private sector tariffs. Families unable to afford private sector costs can receive services here at half the price.”
Dr. Hassan Moslemi Naeini, President of ACECR, congratulated the 44th anniversary of ACECR’s activities as a cultural institution, stating:
“We hope the research-oriented culture of Royan and its reliability will spread to all units, and that everyone will be pioneers and active in technology and innovation. Many experienced scientists have gathered here, and it is a source of pride that so many young people are working here. The combination of young and experienced individuals should be an example for the entire country. We must extract the features of Jihadi activity and promote them in society.”
The Royan Genetics Center, by providing appropriate genetic counseling to clients, will assist them in making informed decisions regarding existing treatment methods and disease etiology. Furthermore, aiming to increase diagnostic accuracy and speed, select optimal treatment methods, and based on Royan’s accumulated knowledge and experience in applying standard and modern genetic engineering methods in biotechnology, the center will conduct research focused on functional studies, gene-based novel therapeutic methods, and the production of recombinant drugs.
Additionally, the Child Health Monitoring Center for ART-conceived children was inaugurated during this ceremony via video conference.
It is worth noting that the Royan Genetics Center is located at:
No. 59, Hamed Alley, Shahid Ejazi Street, Seh Rah Asef, Zafaraniyeh, Tehran, Iran.
